Recently relocated to Napa and have been looking for a decent local Chinese restaurant that served egg foo young and glad to say that they make a pretty decent one here. Being of asian descent, I am pretty picky about my Chinese food and was really hoping not to get small, greasy, overly salted helpings.
We got the house egg foo young with chicken, beef & shrimp and it was tasty. It was not just your run of the mill, light on the meat-heavy on the noodle patty smothered in brown sauce. The patty had crispy edges and lots of veggies & a fair amount of meat.
Foil paper-wrapped chicken: Also quite delicious. Had a subtle ginger flavor which was a nice surprise.
Mongolian beef: Also pretty tasty. More beef than onion & spicy as it should be.
BBQ pork fried rice: As much as I feel guilty eating it, I just can't help myself. Its yummy.
Braised green beans: Large helping. Very large. We asked for spicy and it was indeed spicy. Also pretty tasty.
All in all, I liked everything we ordered very much. The foil wrapped chicken was probably my fave. They seem to serve large helpings and the food came out quickly & was quite hot. Went a little later on a Saturday night so it was not terribly busy but service was prompt & friendly. The place was clean, played 80's music & there's plenty of parking. I'm a fan. Will definitely will go back. -

Go to this place all the time. Food is hot, not spicy when it comes to the table and there are no crowds to fight........ hidden treasure for a fast lunch. Prices are reasonable too! Too bad it caught on fire, can't wait for it to reopen because there are no good Chinese restaurants in our area....... here back.

So I grew up on Staten Island, and for those of you unfamiliar, it is the Chinese food capital of the world... chefs come from all around the world to learn how to make Chinese food there. But this place makes it look like crap. Real Chinese food? Check... Fried chicken, bbq spareribs, all pronounceable! Crazy Chinese music? Check... Your ears will feel like they've fallen backwards into an orchestra playing in a medieval cave. Real Chinese feel? Check... It's like walking into an 800 year old monastery.
Just kidding, the food is delicious and clean. The servers are nice. The whole experience is enjoyable and down to earth. Order one of the family meals or create one of your own by ordering a few different platters and sharing... You cannot go wrong. -

I've been experimenting with making my own Vietnamese style garlic chili. So after making a new batch and letting it age for a few days; we decided to take it for a test run. So we grabbed a jar and headed to China House for dinner.
If you've never been, you should. Wood beamed vaulted ceilings, fish tanks, and leather booths that could all use some updating. There was a comfort in the dinginess that I liked, no attitude, no bullshit, not trying to be anything more than it is.
The menu is pretty much standard chinamerican fare, sweet and sour chicken, eggs rolls, egg drop soup, you get the idea. We ordered way to much food but that's usually how we eat anyways, like its our last meal.
I have to say that our waitress was curious when she saw we had brought our own chili paste. She even told the other waitress that we brought our own. I think we were a novelty amongst their other customers, they doted on us all night which we loved. It's nice to feel special every once and a while, even if it's just an hour at your local Chinese restaurant.
We started our chili tasting with Wor Won Ton Soup. The difference between Wor Won Ton and regular Won Ton soup is the addition of meat in the Wor version. Ours had tender pieces of chicken, small shrimps and plump wontons. The broth was on the bland side but the addition of chili really elevated the flavors. CH has their own chili paste, just ask for it if it's not already on the table.
Deep fried until crispy then slathered with sauce the Lemon Chicken was everything it should have been. Sour, sweet and while typical, very good. I like that they use a fried chicken breast instead of small chunks.
We ordered half a Roast Duck, probably the fattiest duck I've ever had. The skin wasn't crisp and what little meat we did find was surprisingly dry, yet I still gnawed at it. I was hoping that it would get better but never really did. Next time I think I'll try the half fried chicken.
Bean Cake Family Style, blocks of fried tofu cooked with vegetables. Don't get this one, you'll be disappointed just like I was.
Now the Beef Chow Fun you should get. The chewy rice noodles had a slight char and the beef lightly crisp yet still tender and silken. Of course the chili paste made it taste even better, love that stuff. -

Not bad China House... This place only lost one star because of the customer service today. My boyfriend and I had a male server the second time around, and it seemed like he was trying to rush us out. (Making me feel rushed while I'm eating makes me feel a little cranky.) He even forgot to give us our water that I have to ask for it. On the other hand, I love the customer service the first time I came here. We had a female waitress, and the her hospitality made me feel right at home because she checked up on us, refill our drinks, brought our water without asking, and didn't rush us. Take some good notes from her male server!
However, the food is fantastic. The portions was enough to satisfy my cravings. I wasn't too crazy about hot and sour soup on the lunch special menu because I can't handle spicy as well as my boyfriend, but the first time I came here I had the broccoli beef with fried rice, and it was fantastic. The fried rice wasn't greasy and the broccoli beef wasn't salty either. Also, the second time I came here I had the chicken with lemon sauce and chow mein. The chow mein was great it wasn't bland and oily compared to some other Chinese restaurants I tried out in Napa. Plus, the chicken with lemon sauce was crispy and it has a nice sweet kick to it.
Overall, this is a great spot to eat Chinese food. It's definitely beats the other Chinese restaurants I tried at Napa!
